About Me
Introducing Adrian Smith, a seasoned practitioner and teacher of Ki Aikido for over 25 years.
In 1997, when I first stepped onto the mat to practice Ki Aikido, I had no idea how deeply it would shape my life. What began as a practice of movement and focus gradually unfolded into a lifelong journey of self-discovery and the study of Ki/Qi. This path opened the way into natural therapies, teaching, and eventually guided me to lead the Australian International Branch of the Ki Federation of Great Britain.
This exploration led me into therapies such as acupuncture, massage, structural alignment, energetic bodywork, and more. Each modality offered a unique perspective—teaching me different ways to play with and explore Ki. I would often take what I had learned in therapy sessions and experiment with those same concepts on the Ki Aikido mat.
I was eager to translate my understanding of Ki from martial to medical. The biggest shift was energetic: in martial arts, the energy comes at you—while in healing work, you go looking for it. Yet the core principle remained the same: "do no harm".
Over time, these two worlds—martial and medical—began to speak to each other in deeper ways. I found myself drawn to the quiet spaces between movement and stillness, between intention and intuition. This is where Ki-in Therapy was born: a practice that bridges the precision and presence of martial Ki with the sensitivity and deep listening of healing touch. It became a way to follow the body’s natural rhythm, honour its innate intelligence, and support healing from within.
Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to grow both as a person and as a lifelong student of Ki. I’ve become a teacher in Ki Aikido and in the Foundations of Qi Arts. My journey continues to unfold—a life of learning, constantly returning to the principles and deepening my understanding at ever subtler levels.
My intention is to share this path through workshops and retreats, both here in Australia and overseas.
I look forward to assisting, sharing, and learning both from you and alongside you.
